Signs & Symnptoms of Neuropathy The symptoms depend on the type of nerves -- motor, sensory, or autonomic -- that are damaged. Some people will experience numness, tingling and pricking sensations, shooting pain, sensitivity to touch, burning pain. wasting of muscles, weakness, lack of coordination and even paralysis. Nerve damage will result in organ or gland dysfunction. The symptoms of nerve damage are often slight at first. In fact, some mild cases may go unnoticed for a long time. numbness, pain, or tingling in the feet and ankles, or legs may, after several years, lead to weakness in the muscles of the feet and burning feet. Small fiber neuropathy affects the nerve endings in the fingers or toes resulting in numbness, pain, or tingling in the feet and ankles, or legs may, after several years, lead to weakness in the muscles of the feet and burning feet. When sensory nerves are damaged people may experience sensory disturbances and thus, numbness, tingling, shooting pain, pricking sensations, and sensitivity to touch. Motor nerves send impulses from the brain and spinal cord to all the muscles in the body. This enables a person to walk, catch a ball, move fingers to pick something up, button a shirt, etc. etc. Motor nerve involvement begins with painless weakness. When motor nerves are damaged you can get lack of coordination, difficulty walking, or moving the arms and eventually muscle wasting and even paralysis. It can cause cramps and spasms. Autonomic nerves control involuntary or semi-voluntary functions, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, sweating. When the autonomic nerves are damaged the heart may beat faster, or slower. They may feel dizzy when standing up, sweat excessively, or have diffculty swallowing. It can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, problems with urination, abnormal pupul size and sexual dysfunction. When autonomic nerves are damaged you can get organ or gland dysfunction resulting in metabolic and glandular disorders. Nerve tissues are highly vulnerable to damage from diseases that impair the
